The Dungeon Architect Cards public version have arrived! Finally! We have created a brand new tuck box for this public (non-Kickstarter) version of the cards. The decks contain 54 cards and the new tuck box. These cards are the same fantastic quality as found in the Kickstarter cards. They are available to ship both domestically and internationally via our webstore here. The decks are $15 each plus shipping. If you want to buy 3 or more decks, feel free to contact us at email@example.com.
Also in the works...
We will be making a pdf of the DACs available in Spanish in the next weeks. These will be the same price ($5) as the English version. Sometime in the spring the DACs will be available in Italian and French as well. We will also be releasing the FAL Quick Start Spanish (a long time coming) in the next month.
In an effort to be more involved in all things internet and to not seem like such a behind the scenes recluse, I will be trying to offer updates of projects as they are in the works. My goal is to create updates on everything that is taking place behind the scenes with game related projects. We work daily so there should be no shortage of updates... At least in theory (but if my past record of updating is any indicator... ugh).
Here is a rough (rough) mockup of the World Architect Card tuckbox for the upcoming KS project. This was printed on cardstock and hand cut with an exacto. The whole point of a mockup is to see a semi-working version of the final product, to gauge any layout issues, colors errors, etc. So, in something more than a simple update, I will give a rundown of what I see as issues with this current version. Be mindful that this does not take into account the issues with white edges as the final versions will of course avoid such things.
Right now, it's too small. I compared it with the DAC deck and the WAC font need to be larger. Once the font size has been increased, I can see if there needs to be a change in font color. It may need to stand out a bit more. The actual font may change a bit as well. Looking at the photos it seems a bit more comical than I want. I'll see.
The planet will probably be rotated to make room for an increased font size. I wanted the box to be simple and colorful. I wanted to have that hand drawn look. By rotating the planet, the larger font should not obstruct any objects.
Box Top and Bottom
The border around the top and bottom will be finished so that each section of the box will be its own enclosed area. I knew this was an issue before it was printed and I thought it might pass. It doesn't. I want a uniform look and as of now it doesn't look uniform. It looks unfinished. The top of the box will have a smaller, single line WAC font.
The image on the side of the box is repeated on the opposite side. That image was originally going to be a wrap around image on the entirety of the box. It was too busy. But I like the side art, like a little panel of landscape. I may drop text over the sides as a test. It may be too busy. I'll see.
There will be text dropped into the faded image describing the cards. Copyright and advertisement for faruniverse.com will also go here. The position of the SCG logo may change.
I may tweak the overall color of the box. This has already gone through a ton of changes and its getting close. I like the warmth of the orange and the way it contrasts with the blues and cooler colors. More cool colors may make this more evident.
So that's it. That is part of my design journey and how I look at the process and what I want out of the design. I ask a lot of questions and I try and get the final physical image as close to my mental image as possible. I'm hard on my design and layout. I hate business. I hate a feeling of claustrophobia in layout. I hate difficult to read text. The final product should be fun to look at and display. Its for games and games are meant to be fun.
Greetings everyone. I thought I would post a bit about what's happening with projects and upcoming stuff. So, here goes...
In February 2016, we will launch a Kickstarter for a deck of cards to accompany the Dungeon Architect Cards. These cards are most likely going to be called World Architect Cards. They are designed for building over world maps and allowing for on the fly map generation for hexcrawl games and campaigns. The deck will consist of 54 cards with around 20+ unique drawings for various areas/biomes found on a fantasy rpg world map. To give you an idea of what these cards will offer, here are a couple examples.
The cards will each contain an image of the area represented. The cards will also offer 18 descriptors for describing the area. The little chart at the bottom will offer up a random weather generator for each card. The weather generators will vary and will reflect the type of area. As you can see, there are two card types. The blue bordered card will indicate created areas such as structures or modified landscapes. The more brownish-orange card will indicate natural areas.
The Kickstarter is going to offer up a ton of stretch goals for unlocking new artwork and expanding the cards from 54 to a deck of 72. These cards will contain images on both the front and back. The stretch goals will include multiple drawing of each area included in the deck. We will also be offering up layered tiff files as a stretch goal so that backers can make their own custom decks. A nice tuck box will also be made available. The WACs are system neutral. We will be offering reward levels up to 20 decks.
As with our previous Kickstarters, we will have everything in place before we ever run the project. Our goal as always is to create a unique and useful product that is professional and useful. With that in mind, we are hammering out the final touches in order to be ahead of the game. This will allow for the finalizing of the new FAL books which are in the works. 2016 should see the release of a great deal of new content.
Thanks for reading.
The season of light has come to an end. The dark months approach. Good. I can crawl into my hole and make stuff without feeling guilty that I am not outside. I will become pale and pasty and gain weight but I will create new things. And that's what this post is all about, new stuff.
HexCrawl Cards Kickstarter
In February we will be running a Kickstarter for a deck of overworld map building cards in the same vein as the Dungeon Architect Cards. These cards will focus on the construction of maps for overworld adventures. They will compliment the DACs in that the decks can easily be used to together. These cards feature full color artwork (over 40 different drawings). The Kickstarter will see a plethora of stretch goals and additions so that these decks can be awesome. As the time approaches, I will post updates and get the word out. The cards will be colorful and creatively inspirtaional.
There is an absence of an adventure this month. My original goal was to create twelve FAL adventures. It was a taxing effort to create a brand new adventure every month and have it ready on time. I need a break from that responsibility. Any time I start feeling burned out, I know I need a break. I'm just talking monthly adventures here. Work on new FAL stuff continues. Here are some of the new entries from the upcoming creature volumes (yeah, that's plural).
