So, Tom DeSanto, most known for his producer credits in the Transformers movies has struck a deal with the estate of Gary Gygax and is now the "guardian of the library." I'm not sure what that exactly means but what is cool is the idea of the Gygaxian Universe being made available to a larger audience. Tabletop role-playing has been a niche kind of hobby for a long time, pretty much since its early days and really even today. But now you've got all these people who played since they were kids and some of these people have real, long-reaching sway in the world of entertainment. I agree with the article that Gygax is one of those names like Roddenberry or Lucas. Gygax is responsible for influencing and inspiring a ton of designers, artists, writers, gamers, and creative types. I regard him as my main creative influence. Here's the article in its entirety. Regardless of what happens, these are interesting times.
Over the weekend I spent a good deal of time looking for resources on figure sculpting. This all got derailed when I started watching Lego videos and looking at minifigs. I am attributing all of this to research as I need some ideas on how to simplify sculpts for 25-30mm FAL characters. Anyway. I have put together a bunch of Lego stuff below. Watching and looking at this kind of stuff inspires me. Maybe it will work on others as well...
First up is Brick Dictators videos of brick awesomeness. I have posted one below. These are really fantastic and worth the time.
Alright. Now, I've known about BrikWars for years. I have played several times and found it to be a really fun minis game, especially with several players in the fray. I'm sure there are other Lego tabletop wargames out there but BrikWars is by far the best I have come across. However, for a lot of folks, Lego is fairly expensive. You could use some second rate knockoff brand of bricks but for the purest out there, only Lego will suffice. Or is that really the case?
I posted about Kre-O bricks several months back. Originally I had gone to the local Dollar General to pick up some cleaning supplies when low and behold I discovered KRE-O Dungeons and Dragons bricks. These suckers are every bit as good as Lego in my opinion. The boxes are jammed with bircks and minifigs and totally worth the purchase. On top of that the minifigs come with an assortment of armor and awesome weapons. Just look...
And they make GI Joes as well...
Finally, some castles...
