The last two weeks have been spent updating artwork from the original FAL books. This update was done to make the original books look more like the upcoming books in style and tone. Over 50 pieces of new artwork have been created to replace original works found in the Core Rules, Creatures Vol 1, Companion Rules, and Tales of Awesome. Still to be updated are the maps of FAL. The main maps of the continents are being redrawn to reflect the map style that came to be prominent in the FAL adventures. I am still on the fence about keeping detailed hex maps or not. The original continent maps were small and hard to read. These are being replaced to show more detail and offer numbered locations that correspond to map descriptions.
The decision to update the artwork came alongside some errata fixes and some rule updates. Two of the big rules fixes were simplifying XP and leveling and siege weapons and TNs. While nothing has specifically changed concerning these rules, they have been made more clear and direct. Other changes include proofreading errors and grammar.
Anyway. So, here are a couple examples of old and new artwork from the original books (old stuff is on the left and new is on the right).
In an effort to perhaps get a few more folks interested in my Patreon, I will start posting older Patreon posts here on faruniverse. I did this before with Night of the Headsmen. Each time I add a new Patreon post, I will post a new chapter to faruniverse. However, all of the stories posted here first appeared for Patreon folks months ago. If you like these stories and you want to get more new stuff as soon as it comes out, I invite you to have a look at my Patreon campaign. It's only $1 per post and we are super close to our $20 Patreon goal. I generally post two illustrated chapters a month. All of the stories posted on the Patreon are Far Away Land specific. I am hoping to unlock our first goal on Patreon soon (which will open up audio recordings of each chapter).
So, without further wait, here is the first chapter in the story of the Red Wizard and the Linkon. I hope you enjoy it.
Happy New Year everyone!
With new Far Away Land books coming this year, I have undertaken an additional task of correcting errata, clarity, formatting issues, and other things within the original FAL core books. As part of this upgrade, I am also including new artowrk in the original books. The purpose in all of this is make things appear streamlined and as similar as I can. The artwork in the original books was pianstakingly done by drawing, scanning, and outlining each image in vector. Everything is now drawn digitally which makes the process faster, allows me to add greater levels of details, and create more robust scenes.
These updates are not a new set of core books nor are they a second set of FAL rules. These are simply fixes to the system to make it shinier. I have no plans on creating a second set of FAL rules now or ever. I do however want to create a very sculpted and clean set of books. These changes to the core books will allow the originals to coexist with the new books in a seamless style.
I have several large projects working right now including multiple FAL books, the DAC/WAC app (which has become greatly expanded), and background FAL information. This background information is taking the form of stories that are being released through Patreon for the time. I have a huge amount of FAL backstory, setting information, and universe building material that has been sitting for too long. The goal is to release a large amount of this publicly during 2017.
